Optic Fiber Network: The Repulse Bay

Cybersys is very active in optic fiber technology applications in Hong Kong and PRC. This Case Study is intended to present to the readers that optic fiber network is cost effective network solution.

Reasons for optic fiber network

  • Free from electromagnetic waves interference, such as power cables, and inside elevator shafts;
  • High speed gigabit (10Gbps or above) and stable clean data signal;
  • Full High Definition (FHD, resolution 1920*1080) display and stereo audio transmission over a long distance.

Selection of optic fiber and equipment

  • Optic Fiber selection: indoor or outdoor, distance, type of data transmitting (single or multi-mode), number of substations servicing. Choice of patch cords: SC, LC, LX, ST, etc. Protective case for the optic fiber patch cords is definitely required.
  • Equipment selection (basic users):
    1. Choice of data switch (reputable brand) with fiber modules;
    2. Optic fiber transmitter and receivers;
    3. Computerized equipment for data processing, e.g. server and multimedia player.
    4. Audio and video equipment for display (FHD) and stereo sound effects.

Cabling requirements

  • For optic fiber running within a building, plastic conduits or galvanized trunks. Attention is also required on the curving of the conduits or trunks so as not to bend the fiber in excess of 90 degree.
  • For cabling outdoor, the fiber cable is preferred to be protected by strong PVC sheath and the cable running inside weather proof trunk or pipe. Unless the cable is of more than 6 cores, the weight of optic fiber is light in comparison to normal electricity or data cable. Attention to the EMSD practice guide on cabling is also recommended.
